Developmental editing
A high-level edit of structure, ideas, and content. I’ll work with the author to develop ideas and pinpoint places to add and/or subtract text. Together we’ll find solutions and make sure the point is crystal clear and the structure is strong and engaging.

Copyediting
A detailed edit to make sure everything makes sense and is perfectly consistent. This includes attention to fact checking, grammar, readability, sentence and paragraph structure, format, and citations. During this edit, I’ll produce a detailed style sheet.

Proofreading
A final polish after the text has already been copyedited (often after typesetting). I’ll check for errors and inconsistencies on the word and sentence level, ensuring compliance with your chosen style.

Writing and adaptation
A fresh take on existing material. Does your text need beefing up or rewriting? Does it need to be repurposed or updated for a new audience? I’ll adapt your work to suit. For instance, I’ve adapted adult trade books into kids’ books, turned podcast transcripts into trade books, and made chapter books into daily readers. With some imagination, we’ll give your text a new life.

Derivative content development
A new exploration of your finished writing. Whether it’s a short study guide, workbook, guided journal, or blog excerpts, derivative content development can help readers synthesize and apply your ideas. I’ll craft engaging content that resonates with your audience and helps them dig deeper into your ideas.

Project management
Shepherding your publication from manuscript to print. I’ll arrange all stages of editing and proofing according to your schedule. Working with your design and production team, I’ll make sure everything comes in on time and in great shape.
RATES
Rates are determined on a case-by-case basis. Each project is different, so I will develop a customized approach tailored to your needs and budget.
The Editorial Freelancers Association has posted a handy list of common rates to help you estimate a ballpark figure.
STYLE GUIDES
I’ll make sure your work complies with your house style or the style manual of your choosing. (But I must admit, my favorite is The Chicago Manual of Style.)
